For those of us with slightly older children, the new school year is well under way and before we know it, it will be half term. We would welcome any comments from parents whose children have started school for the first time this term - let us know how they are coping, or if there has been a change of school, perhaps due to a move or transferring from primary to secondary school. Are you happy with the levels of care being provided in school for your child?
Any views concerning schooling issues would be gratefully received!

Sam has just started school and is loving every minute of it! He waves me out the door as soon as we get there in the morning - since the very first day! He is doing really well and has his own TA who is currently being trained by the community children's nursing team. He currently has the carers that he had in nursery until the TA is trained (though I do have to cover a couple of afternoons a week). His new TA is trained nurse but has been out of nursing for about 7 years and hasn't dealt with trachys since her training days, but she is very good with Sam and I feel very happy with the care he is receiving.
I have a question if anyone could offer advice on this. The headteacher has asked if I would talk to the school about Sam and his trach/oxygen/gastrostomy. apart from the fact that I will be absolutely terrified standing up in front of a hall full of schoolchildren, I really don't know where to start. I obviously don't need to go into detail about all the medical stuff, that would be too much - just enough information to satisfy their obvious curiosity and answer any questions they may have.
Hi Julie. Sorry it's been a while since your posting, I haven't checked the blog for a while. I will give you a call after half term to chat about talking to Sam's school. I know of another Mum who spoke to her son's school so maybe you might like to chat to her to find out what she said etc. Best wishes, Amanda
