Now that the weather is improving and I am finally a full time mummy I would like to get out and about with Luis more but still find it a struggle so am interested to hear how other parents manage it.
I have a Laerdal suction machine which is like carring a small typewriter around (!), a bag that contains his emergency kit, catheters, gloves and humidivents, a nappy bag with all the usual toddler kit (kept to a bare minimum) and a nearly 2 year old who is not terrible but is definitely trying, plus the obligatory toy that Luis can't leave the house without bringing.
The easist thing is when Luis will sit nicely in his pushchair as everything fits perfectly on it, but he won't stay in there for long. He then won't walk for long either but won't get back in the pushchair which is when I end up carrying him and pushing a precarious pushchair that tips without him sitting in it.
So, I am all ears to hear about how others manage (or don't!) to get out and see if any parents of older kids have any top tips. Does everyone look like they are leaving home when they are just popping to the shops?!
Looking forward to hearing your ideas.

Hi Helen,
I have the opposite problem - a three and a half year old who is a bit selective about where and when he will walk and is still far too attached to his buggy. He can run for hours in a soft play/ park - ask him to walk five minutes to the shops is another matter!
Anyway, our buggy was assessed by the Medical Physics department to make sure it was stable and safe when a suction machine was attached. The staff there added straps to the back of our buggy so we could safely attach the suction machine to the back, first a devilbliss (too noisy) and then a Clario. Swapping sucion machines to a Clario will make getting out and about much easier as it is quite light. We can get all our medical supplies (e.g. catheters, spare tubes, spare HME, gloves, hand sanitizer etc.) in the Clario bag too. We were on O2 for 18mths, and our buggy also carried this. Indeed, I kept carrying it long after Dominic was weaned off it as it balanced the buggy so well.
Dominic's toilet trained, so I don't bother with a changing bag anymore, and I just take it to chance that he doesn't have an accident. This way the two of us can walk without the pushchair when he agrees. I carry my handbag and the Clario bag on one shoulder so my other hand is free to hold his. Wrist straps are handy too so at least when you stop to suction and need both hands the child doesn't run away. Dominic is often far too busy to be suctioned !!??? (you'd think he'd want to be helped to breathe - nope!).
Anyway, hope this helps. Good luck and enjoy your trips out.

it is frustrating sometimes, isn't it...we swapped our devilbiss for the clario suction machine and it's so small it fits into a pram bag. so that helps. but we still have the suction machine + the other medical bag. i can manage to fit nappies and the drink and toys into that bag.
emily has only just started walking so i need to take the pram if we are going far...i end up just carrying her for a short distance with the bags on the pram when she won't sit in it, then insist that she does get back in because mummy is tired!!!
